Schools & Education
The public school district covering most of the county — Dahlgren Elementary, East Side Elementary, Hamilton County Pre-School, the Family Resource Center, and Hamilton County Jr/Sr High School (about 1,300 students).
Teacher licensure, school safety, truancy and alternative education, and GED / high-school-equivalency testing for Hamilton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington counties.
Health & Wellness
The county hospital district — inpatient care, 24/7 emergency room, diagnostics (X-ray, CT, MRI, mammography), and specialty clinics including cardiology, general surgery, and behavioral health.
Primary care with walk-ins welcome — illness and injury care, physicals, immunizations, women's health, and same-day lab results. Open Mon–Fri 8–5 and Saturday mornings 8:30–12.
Public health clinics, immunizations, environmental health (well and septic permits), and community health programs.
Meals served on site for residents 60 and up, home-delivered meals for the homebound, and a range of social services and activities for seniors.
Libraries & Museums
The 1884 Cloud family home, a library since 1921 and listed on the National Register. Books, media, public computers and free WiFi, children's story times, and SHARE interlibrary loans.
Local-history museum and historical society on the second floor of the McCoy Memorial Library. Open Wednesday and Friday, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. — stop in for a tour or genealogy help.
Parks & Recreation
A 1,960-acre state area about 8 miles southeast of McLeansboro off Route 14. The 75-acre Dolan Lake offers fishing (bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish), a boat ramp (10 HP limit), camping, hiking, picnicking, and hunting.
Six municipal parks totaling almost 70 acres: Lakeview Park on the 75-acre former city reservoir, Heard's Pond fishing park, Kid's Kingdom playground at Kiwanis Park, the Izaak Walton cabin park on Lake McLeansboro, and the City Pool.
Nine-hole semi-private course on the west side of McLeansboro — bent-grass greens, Bermuda fairways, two reachable par 5s.
Cities & Villages
The county seat since 1821, incorporated as a city in 1886 — home to the courthouse square, a historic-preservation district, and about 2,800 residents.
