Walk-in payments are accepted Monday through Friday during posted hours. Most residents pay online through the Web Tax Portal, by mail, or by drop-box at the south entrance of the courthouse.
Who’s who in the office
Pay online
Pay through the Web Tax Portal hosted by CIC Hosting. You’ll need your parcel number — the 14-digit code on the upper left of your tax bill. Pay with eCheck (no fee) or credit card (2.5% processor fee), then save the confirmation for your records.
Pay by mail
Mail a check or money order payable to Hamilton County Treasurer, 100 S. Jackson St, McLeansboro, IL 62859. Postmarks on or before the due date are accepted as on-time. Include the payment stub from your bill, or write your parcel number on the memo line.
Pay in person
The Treasurer’s Office is on the first floor of the courthouse. Cash, check, money order, and card are accepted (2.5% processor fee on card). A 24-hour drop-box is at the south entrance; payments dropped after 4:00 p.m. are processed the next business day.

When are property tax bills mailed?
Bills are mailed each June. For tax year 2025 (payable 2026), bills go out June 12, 2026 and should arrive by June 19.
What if I don't get my bill in the mail?
Call the Treasurer’s Office or look it up on the Web Tax Portal. Failure to receive a bill does not waive penalties — under Illinois law, the obligation remains the property owner’s.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes. The Hamilton County tax is collected in two installments. For 2025 (payable 2026): 1st installment due July 17, 2026; 2nd installment due September 5, 2026.
What is the late penalty?
1.5% per month of the unpaid balance after each installment due date.
How do I qualify for the senior freeze?
Apply with the Supervisor of Assessments by July 1, 2026. Income limits apply — see the application form for the current threshold.
