County roads and bridges, oversize/overweight load permits, and utility permits.
The County Highway Department maintains Hamilton County’s roads and bridges, and issues permits for oversized loads, overweight loads, and utility work in the county right-of-way. Permit forms and county road maps can be found under the “Forms & Documents” tab.
The Road & Bridge Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the courtroom of the courthouse. All meetings are open to the public under the Illinois Open Meetings Act (5 ILCS 120). Agendas are posted at least 48 hours in advance; approved minutes are posted within 10 calendar days. Meeting minutes are new to the county website and will be available for FY26. The Highway Department is located at 910 East Randolph Street in McLeansboro — not at the courthouse. All documents can be submitted via mail or in person during normal business hours.
